Foo Fighters - The Colour And The Shape, 2x Vinyl LP
The Colour And The Shape marks Foo Fighters’ second studio album and is widely considered an essential addition to any Foo Fighters collection.
Produced by Gil Norton, the album was released on May 20, 1997, through Capitol Records and the band’s own Roswell Records. Unlike their 1995 debut, which was largely a solo project by frontman Dave Grohl with friend Barrett Jones, this record is the first true Foo Fighters group effort.
Much of the album’s introspective lyricism draws from Grohl’s 1996 divorce from photographer Jennifer Youngblood, while the music itself shows a noticeable evolution in style and complexity. The tracklist was thoughtfully arranged to mirror a kind of therapeutic journey, balancing high-energy rock songs with slower, contemplative ballads to reflect contrasting emotional states.
Singles such as “Monkey Wrench,” “Everlong,” and “My Hero” all reached the top ten on U.S. rock radio charts, and the album itself climbed to number three in the U.K.
