Gilgamesh ‎– Self-Titled, Red Translucent Vinyl LP

NB: light corner dings, else fine.

Gilgamesh's self-titled debut sits in that rich mid-70s zone where progressive rock opens out into jazzier, more fluid playing. This reissue keeps the album's knotty arrangements and sudden turns intact, but it never loses the feel of a band moving with real agility rather than prog for prog's sake.

Long-form pieces, tight ensemble passages and quick flashes of wit give the record its identity, with standouts including the opening suite and the sprawling closer on side two. A strong pick for listeners who like their 70s rock adventurous, musically sharp and a little left of centre.
